Hisbah Board in Kano Faces Frozen Bank Accounts Due to Lawsuit from Hoteliers

The Kano State Hisbah Board has said that its operations have been totally crippled following the freezing of all its bank accounts due to a lawsuit instituted against the board by hotel owners in the state.

This was revealed by Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the board’s commander-general in an interview with TRT Africa Hausa on Wednesday

Recall that the Kano Hisbah board had carried out a series of raids on high profile hotels across Kano city, where it arrested persons suspected to be involved in prostitution as part of its “Operation Kau da Badala”, or “Operation Against Immorality”.

Daurawa said, “Yes, it is true that all of our bank accounts have been frozen. I have sent a representative to meet with the Attorney-General because we were not told about the alleged offence and the basis for the account closures.

“We received a court document alleging misconduct at two hotels, resulting in charges of N700,000 and N100,000 respectively. The document demanded a combined payment of N800,000, leading to the closure of our accounts.

“We should be told about the offence we have committed so that we can ask our lawyers to participate in the discussion. If we fail to defend ourselves, then we will be judged.”

Daurawa also expressed concern that the court ruling has crippled Hisbah’s operations due to the restriction on the bank accounts.
