Staff members of the Kano State Internal Revenue Services (KIRS) have raised concerns over recent deductions from their monthly incentives, calling the move unjust and detrimental, especially given the current economic hardship facing the public.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, several staff members described the deductions as “unfair and an injustice.” They revealed that a sum of ₦5,000 was deducted from their monthly stipends without any prior notice or explanation from the management.
“The management of KIRS deducted ₦5,000 from all staff without any explanation,” one employee lamented. “Given the current economic situation, this deduction has put additional strain on us and our families.”
In addition to the issue of unexplained deductions, the staff also expressed frustration over the non-payment of palliatives, which many other civil servants in Kano State have already received.
“Since the administration of former Chairman Sani Abdulkadir Dambo, we have not received any palliatives, unlike our colleagues in other ministries,” another employee stated. “This lack of support has made it even harder to cope with the rising cost of living.”
The employees are calling for immediate action from the KIRS management to address these issues. They demand a clear explanation for the deductions and the swift distribution of palliatives to all affected staff members.
The media has reached out to the KIRS management for comment on the staff’s allegations but has not yet received a response.
