Kano Civil Society Forum Elects New Executives After Over a Decade

The Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) has elected new executives to run its affairs after 11 years under a caretaker arrangement.

The election, held at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano on Saturday, saw Muhammad Bello, Chief Executive of the African Center For Innovative Research and Development, emerge as the new President of the Forum. Bello secured 56 out of 60 votes, defeating former Caretaker President Ibrahim Wayya, who received two votes.

Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Hamisu Sharifai, noted that seven positions were returned unopposed, seven were contested, and one, Assistant Financial Secretary, was adopted by the Congress, totaling 15 members of the EXCO.

Fatima Musa, Chief Operations Officer of Bridge Connect Africa Initiative, was elected as Vice President-1, while Kabiru Ibrahim became Vice President-2. Salisu Yusuf, Chairman of Kano Social Protection Platform, was elected Secretary General, and Aminu Sani Muhammad was returned as Assistant Secretary General.

Other elected officials include Maryam Garba as Treasurer and Umar Musa as Legal Adviser.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Muhammad Tabiu, SAN, praised the election process and urged the new officers to be dedicated to the Forum’s progress, especially given the current economic challenges.

In his acceptance speech, the newly-elected chairman thanked the Forum for the mandate and called for synergy among members to advance the Forum’s objectives. The new executives will serve a two-year term.
