NSCDC Arrests 32 in Kano After Protest Turns Violent

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained 32 individuals following a protest in Kano that descended into chaos, leading to the looting of various shops.

The protest, which was overtaken by miscreants, saw significant property damage and theft.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement by SC Ibrahim Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer of the Civil Defence, Kano Command, on Thursday. Abdullahi reported that the apprehensions were made by officers from the Corps’ Fagge Divisional Office.

The suspects, predominantly youths, were detained in several areas, including Sabon Gari, Bata, France Road, and Murtala Mohammed Way. Stolen properties worth thousands of Naira were recovered from the detainees.

Additionally, NSCDC operatives, aided by community members, recovered further stolen items from hoodlums in Gyadi Gyadi. These items were reportedly pilfered during the protest at State Road and Iyaka Road in the municipality.

The NSCDC has launched an investigation into the events and plans to pursue legal action against those found culpable upon the investigation’s conclusion.
