Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, former Minister of State for Housing, has voiced support for Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Kano State, to be considered for a ministerial role following his recent removal.

Speaking in an interview with BBC, Gwarzo explained that the main reason for his removal was to allocate the ministerial position to Kano’s central region, as many politicians from the Kano North Senatorial District already hold federal roles.

“If it’s true that the ministerial slot will go to Kano Central, we have our 2023 gubernatorial candidate, who is also our leader in that region. Why not consider him for the position?” Gwarzo said.

He further pointed out that Gawuna’s current role doesn’t allow him to support his followers financially. “All his counterparts who contested in other states, like the candidates from Plateau and Zamfara, were given positions,” Gwarzo noted.

Gwarzo suggested that Gawuna should be the primary candidate for the role, unless he declines, in which case another candidate could be chosen.

Kano Times reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently dismissed five ministers, including Gwarzo, appointing Abdullahi Yusuf Atta, former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, in his place.

It was also mentioned that President Tinubu recently appointed Nasiru Gawuna as chair of the governing council at Bayero University, Kano.
