Kano Government Forms 6-Man Committee to Ensure Project Efficiency

In a move to ensure transparency and accountability in the monitoring of government projects, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced the formation of a 6-Man State Projects Monitoring Committee.

The committee is tasked with overseeing the implementation of government projects and ensuring value for money.

The committee, which was officially announced on February 1, 2025, comprises key figures from various state ministries. It is chaired by Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation.

The other members of the committee include Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, Commissioner for the Ministry of Information; Engr. Marwan Ahmad, Commissioner for the Ministry of Works and Housing; Alhaji Ali Haruna Makoda, Commissioner for Education; Nasiru Sule Garo, Commissioner for the Ministry of Special Duties; and Alhaji Muhammad Habibu Sale, State Chairman of the Kano Projects Protection Association (Kano PRO-PA).

A statement issued by Sagiru Ado Abubakar, the Information Officer of the Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation, noted that the committee’s first meeting focused on familiarizing the members with their roles and responsibilities. The meeting was also aimed at establishing the terms of reference for the committee’s work.

“The meeting was an important step towards creating a participatory framework for monitoring government projects. It was agreed that Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) should be involved in the monitoring activities to enhance the assessment of community projects and programs,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the statement highlighted that the Kano State Government has approved over 300 projects across the state, with the Ministries of Works and Education being the primary client ministries.

The inclusion of commissioners from these ministries is expected to facilitate the successful and efficient execution of the committee’s mandate.

“This initiative demonstrates the state government’s commitment to ensuring that public projects are implemented efficiently, effectively, and with full accountability,” the statement added.
