Jigawa State Children’s Parliament Calls for Justice in the Case of a 14-Year-Old Girl’s Rape

The Jigawa Human Rights Network strongly condemns heinous act of rape allegedly committed by 52-year old Man by name Sale Idrith of Roni town, against a 14-year old girl who served as a maid in his house. The accused is the principal suspect in this grave crime which has left the victim with four months and two weeks pregnant.

Based on reports at our disposal, it has come to light that the suspect attempted to terminate the pregnancy by instructing a chemist to administer injections that posed a serious threat to Aisha’s well-being. Fortunately, the Sexual Assaults Referral Center in Dutse, upon examination, identified the harm caused by these injections, leading to immediate medical intervention. She was subsequently transferred to a private hospital, where she received proper care and was kept under observation from Thursday to Friday.

Given the gravity of this violation, it is important to emphasize that rape cases should not be subjected to compounding or bail. In this regard, we appreciate the swift response of the Nigerian Security and Civil Corps in apprehending the accused individual and promptly initiating an investigation.

In light of the rising frequency of rape cases and the alarming concern raised by this incident, we call upon the security personnel, the judiciary, the state government, and all stakeholders to ensure that justice is served to the victim. It is imperative that the rule of law prevails and that perpetrators of such abhorrent acts face the full force of prosecution.

Jigawa State Children Parliament is a platform that gives children the access to air out Their views concerning issues that affects them. The parliament remains committed to advocating for the rights of survivors of sexual assault and supporting initiatives aimed at combating this pervasive issue within our society. We urge the public to stand with us in this fight against sexual violence, fostering a safe environment for all.

The parliament sincerely apologize to the victim’s family and will continue to advocate for the rights of the children within the State.
