NSCDC introduces programmes for enhanced professionalism

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has introduced Career Progression Development Courses for its officers and men to promote adherence to professionalism, the rule of law, and good conduct.

Dr. Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC Controller General, made this known at a five-day workshop organized for NSCDC officers from across the 36 states of the Federation in Abuja.

He explained that henceforth, any officer who could not pass the promotion examination after three failed attempts would be forced to retire from service and give way to competent ones.

Speaking on the theme of the workshop, “Curriculum Optimization and Harmonization Process,” Dr. Audi pointed out that the NSCDC had long recognized the importance of training and retraining its staff as a pathway to optimal performances and would continue to pay more attention to training and mentoring.

He urged those who participated in the workshop to use the knowledge garnered to improve their performances and also cascade the knowledge down to benefit their various formations.

Dr. Audi, who stated that NSCDC has keyed into the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the current administration, said the Corps would not tolerate any human rights abuse and that accidental discharge is not acceptable.

He said any trigger-happy Corp is on his own, as the NSCDC would not defend anyone found guilty of such offenses.

One of the lecturers at the workshop and Director Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan, Professor Tajudeen Akanji, described the workshop as the most apt, noting that the training is key to changing the mindset of the people.

He applauded the NSCDC for embracing regular training and retraining of its officers and men, which he maintained could improve their capacity and increase productivity.
