The Management of ECOLE SUPERIEURE DE GESTION ET DE TECHNOLOGIE, Benin Republic, denied the claim made by the Daily Nigerian Reporter that he obtained his degree in mass communication within a period of six weeks.
This statement was contained in a release signed by the University’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. John Dogbe Alokato, made available to newsmen in Nigeria. The statement titled ‘RE: UNDERCOVER: How DAILY NIGERIAN reporter bagged Cotonou varsity degree in 6 weeks, participated in NYSC scheme,’ distances the university from issuing such a shorter-term result.
“In light of the report published on December 30, 2023, by Umar Audu, a reporter with Daily Nigerian, it is pertinent to note that the information disseminated about ECOLE SUPERIEURE DE GESTION ET DE TECHNOLOGIE is misleading, and I believe it must have been reported in error.
“Our university was implicated as the institution where the reporter obtained a degree in six weeks, purportedly offering quick, condensed degrees to Nigerian students. The report claimed that the degree certificate was sold by a specialized racketeering agent.
“The management of ECOLE SUPERIEURE DE GESTION ET DE TECHNOLOGIE has initiated a thorough investigation into the matter through the necessary security agencies to identify those involved in tarnishing the institution’s reputation so they can be brought to justice.
“Our programs have a minimum duration of three years, so it is alarming to see a certificate allegedly awarded by our university in six weeks. This not only goes against the law but also contradicts the standards of every reputable university worldwide.
“We want to clarify that the certificate obtained by Mr. Audu is not from our institution, and investigations are underway to uncover the person behind the issuance of the fake certificate bearing our university’s name. ECOLE SUPERIEURE DE GESTION ET DE TECHNOLOGIE, currently regarded as one of the fastest-growing universities in Benin Republic, has no record of the said reporter being enrolled, let alone graduating.
“This malicious act aims to tarnish the university’s good image and is the work of mischief-makers. Our students undergo rigorous studies guided by experienced and qualified lecturers. They are evaluated academically and morally, graded on their moral behavior, class attendance (monitored through class monitoring sheets), and their positive contributions to the university and host community, termed ‘Citizenship Grade.’
“This is evident in our transcripts issued to students upon graduation, a feature unique to our university in Benin Republic.
“Therefore, I am writing to correct the misconceptions and investigations published about our University by Daily Nigerian. I humbly request that the paper retract the information as it is detrimental for public consumption. We also seek any useful information leading to identifying the parties involved so that the law can take its due course.”
