Nigerians are suffering, I’ll personally meet Tinubu for intervention – Gov Yusuf

The governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir-Yusuf has expressed concerns over the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians, including his state.

The governor, therefore, revealed that he would personally meet President Bola Tinubu on the economic hardship people of Kano are facing.

Speaking during a meeting with the state’s business community at the government house on Monday, Mr Yusuf lamented how prices of commodities are skyrocketing at the expense of the common man.

According to him, the prices of commodities, especially food prices have thrown people into hunger, posing serious challenge to poor residents and civil servants in the state.

The governor, therefore, promises to collaborate with the business community to chart ways of bringing down prices of commodities that would be affordable to common citizens, especially as Ramadan fasting was fast approaching.

“We are aware and concerned about the skyrocketing prices of commodities beyond the common man.

“A measure of even local rice is now sold at N3,000 while the 50kg bag is over N60,000. A measure of maize is N1,500 while the bag is over N50,000

“How could a common man, civil servant live this life?,” the governor quizzed.

“We are aware of the challenges faced even by the business community in the area of high exchange rate.

“We have to wake up to bring succour to the poor and poorest. We have to bring ways to bring succour but it is in the hands of the business community. Our own is to provide enabling environment for smooth running of your businesses.

“The situation is critical. I will personally meet President Tinubu to report to him the situation for his intervention,” the governor disclosed.

Mr Yusuf, however, called on rice millers and farmers to subsidize their commodity and other grains for the common citizens.

He also tasked farmers to stop hoarding grains and sell to the people at affordable prices, specially as the Ramadan fasting was fast approaching.
