Jigawa Commissioner Suspended Over Alleged Ramadan Feeding Funds Misuse

In a move to ensure accountability, Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has suspended the Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Aminu Kanta.

The suspension, effective immediately, stems from allegations of misappropriation of funds allocated for the Ramadan Iftar Feeding Programme in Babura, a local government area within the state.

Malam Bala Ibrahim, Secretary to the State Government, signed a press statement released on Friday in Dutse, the state capital.

The statement clarified that the suspension is temporary, pending the outcome of an investigative committee established by the Governor to probe the accusations.

Governor Namadi’s action underscores his commitment to responsible financial management and tackling misuse of public funds.

This suspension follows the State Executive Council’s (SEC) approval to release N2.8 billion for the Ramadan Iftar feeding program across Jigawa’s 27 local government areas.

The program involved setting up 600 feeding centers, with a minimum of two locations in each political ward.

Additionally, designated centers were established within higher institutions across the state. Each center aimed to provide daily meals for at least 300 people throughout the Ramadan period.
