Gombe Governor Appoints Two New Permanent Secretaries

In a move aimed at enhancing productivity within the civil service, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has approved the appointment of two new permanent secretaries.

The appointments were conveyed through a statement by the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Ahmed Kasimu Abdullahi.

The newly appointed permanent secretaries are Professor Mu’azu Usman Shehu and Muhammad Bello Abubakar Kumo, both professionals with extensive backgrounds in their respective fields.

Professor Mu’azu Usman Shehu, an academic in Environmental Sociology, hails from Gombe Local Government Area. He earned his B.Sc in Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2001.

Joining the Gombe State University Service in 2005 as a Graduate Assistant, Shehu ascended to the rank of professor. His roles include serving as a Carson Fellow at the Rachel Carson Centre for Environment and Society at the University of Munich, Germany.

He was also appointed by Governor Yahaya as the Programme Coordinator for Gombe Goes Green (3G) in 2019 and later as Director-General of Research and Documentation in the Governor’s office, a position he has held until now.

Muhammad Bello Abubakar Kumo, from Akko Local Government Area, brings experience from the banking and financial sectors. He holds a B.Tech in Agricultural Economics and Extension from the Federal University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa State.

Starting his career at the defunct Bank of the North in 1999, Kumo rose to the position of Marketing Officer/Bank Credit Coordinator at the Sokoto Regional Office by 2001.

He subsequently joined the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, where he served as Head of the Administration and Coordination Unit in the FCT and advanced to become the Branch Manager/Katsina State Controller and Assistant General Manager, his most recent role before this appointment.

Governor Yahaya expressed his confidence in the new appointees. The appointments take effect immediately.
