Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has confirmed the readiness to conduct local government elections in Kano State.

In a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor made this announcement during a stakeholders meeting with the leadership of the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at Africa House, Government House, Kano, on Friday.

Governor Yusuf highlighted plans to hold the council elections in full compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgment, which affirmed financial autonomy for the third tier of government.

Yusuf emphasized his commitment to the rule of law, financial prudency, accountability, and transparency across all tiers of governance.

The Governor assured that the local government elections would be free, fair, and credible, urging opposition parties to participate confidently, as his administration would not interfere with the electoral process.

“Our administration allowed the previous Local Government Executive Councils in the 44 LGAs to complete their tenure despite internal pressures, out of respect for the rule of law,” said Governor Yusuf.

He added, “Our respect for accountability and the recent Supreme Court judgment have motivated our readiness to conduct the council elections.”

Governor Yusuf stated that preparations are well underway by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for the council polls, assuring that the elections would take place soon.

“We will soon invite you again for the selection of our party’s candidates for the 44 LGAs, who will run for the positions of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councillors. We aim to conduct peaceful campaigns, believing that the majority of Kano people will vote for the NNPP,” Governor Yusuf assured.
