Lagos Police Detain Woman Over N4.2 Million UK Visa Fraud

The Police in Lagos have arrested a 27-year-old woman, Kafayat Olamide Olokodana, for allegedly obtaining the sum of N4.2 million from a United Kingdom (UK)-based businessman, Owolabi Oshiyemi, under the pretext that she had secured a UK student visa to study at Roehampton University, London.

Police allege that the defendant deceived the complainant with a UK student visa to study in the UK and collected the money from him, knowing full well that her claim was false. She then converted the money to her use and fled.

According to sections 314, 365, and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, the defendant committed a punishable act.

Police prosecuting counsel, ASP Francis Igbinosa, told the court in the charge marked M/21/2024 that the defendant committed the offense between 16 August and 15 December 2023 in Lagos.

Ayoku adjourned the case until 22 July 2024 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Kirikiri correctional facility.
