The headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State is currently engulfed in flames.
The secretariat was set ablaze amidst violent protests against hunger. Disgruntled youths stormed the facility in Dutse, the state capital, destroying billboards and other publicity materials before setting the building on fire.
Vehicles parked within the premises were also torched.
The violence spread to other parts of the state as armed youths ran rampant despite efforts by security operatives to contain them.
In Birnin Kudu, several people sustained injuries as the State Fertilizer Store and Grains Store were vandalized and looted by the rioters. The state Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO) store in Gumel was similarly attacked.
The mob also targeted the residence of the House of Representatives member representing Gumel, Gagarawa, and Maigarati, as well as the home of the APC Zonal Vice Chairman.
