A High Court sitting in Kano has issued an interim injunction restraining the recently elected executive management committee of the Kano Civil Society (CSO) Forum from henceforth parading themselves as leaders of the forum in Kano.
This is contained in the court’s order, signed by the registrar under the hand and seal of the presiding judge, dated 22nd August 2024.
The injunction follows a case filed by some aggrieved members on behalf of the registered members of the Forum who were sidelined and excluded during the conduct of the election.
It could be recalled that the Kano Civil Society Forum Board of Trustees appointed an electoral committee to organize a fair, credible, and acceptable election under the chairmanship of Hamisu Isa Sharifai.
However, some members felt sidelined by the conduct of the elections, which they declared were full of irregularities, unprofessionalism, unfair treatment of many of the members who contested the elections, exclusion, lack of neutrality, and above all, a total disregard for the genuine complaints of the majority of the registered members, totaling about 100 organizations.
They added that before the conduct of the elections on 8th June 2024, many members of the Forum complained to the Board of Trustees about the non-inclusion of many registered members and requested the Board to postpone the elections in the interest of fairness and inclusion.
They further stated that unfortunately, and to their surprise, the Board refused to heed the request of the members and went ahead to authorize the conduct of the elections despite repeated demands by the members from all quarters.
The Kano State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Aisha Ya’u, in a motion ex parte dated 29th July 2024, granted the request of the applicants and issued an interim injunction restraining those claiming to be elected from parading themselves as executives of the Kano Civil Society Forum pending the determination of the case, which is slated to come up for hearing on 10th September 2024.
Consequently, by the said order of the court, the following individuals have been prohibited from presenting, addressing, acting, or parading themselves as elected executives of the Kano Civil Society Forum henceforth:
Muhammad Bello, Fatima Musa Aliyu, Kabiru Ibrahim Ahmad, Salisu Yusuf, Barr. Aminu Sani Muhammad, Salisu Gambo Detol, and Ali Wali.
Also included are Maryam Garba Usman, Dinatu Dama Maji, Ruqayya Abdulraman, Hassan Garba Baraya, and Barr. Umar Isah.
Others are Suleiman A A Haruna Ayagi, Barr. Fatima Aliyu Chabir, and Buhari Abubakar Usman.
