Future in Tech: CITAD Graduates 30 Kano Girls in Robotics

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) graduated 30 students from public secondary schools in Kano who completed a nine-week training program in artificial intelligence, robotics, and coding.

The event took place on Thursday at the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB).

The students, from Government Girls Secondary School, Janbulo, and Government Girls Secondary School, Aisami, received training aimed at building technical skills and promoting self-reliance.

Mr. Isah Garba, Senior Program Officer at CITAD, highlighted the importance of the training. “By introducing these young girls to robotics and coding, we are equipping them with tools to shape their future in technology,” he said.

Dr. Kabiru Ado Zakirai, Executive Director of KSSSMB, recognized the students’ dedication, noting, “The skills acquired in AI, robotics, and coding are fundamental for tackling real-world challenges.”

Several graduates shared their experiences. “This training has opened up possibilities I never imagined,” said Safiyya Idris from Government Girls Secondary School, Janbulo. Another participant, Aisha Muhammad from Government Girls Secondary School, Aisami, added, “Learning AI and robotics inspired me to create and innovate.”

The program is part of CITAD’s efforts to develop young female talent in tech, addressing barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field.
