The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has concluded a one-week ICT training for 30 staff members of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in Kano State.
The training, held in Kaduna, was designed to enhance the participants’ administrative capacity through improved ICT skills.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, CITAD’s Training Coordinator, Mr. Ahmad Abdullahi Yakasai, underscored the importance of ICT in modern administration. He remarked, “ICTs are crucial tools in global development processes. Administrators can use ICT to streamline daily operations, teachers to enhance their teaching methods, and students to improve their learning experiences.”
Highlighting CITAD’s approach, Mr. Yakasai noted, “This is the second time we are training Kano RAAMP staff in ICT skills to boost their capacity. Additionally, we have trained RAAMP staff from Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna states. Our time-efficient module has been thoroughly tested to address the growing demand for ICT proficiency in administration. Officers in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), particularly administrative staff, must leverage ICT infrastructure to benefit their organizations, the government, and its partners.”
The training coordinator also explained that CITAD trained RAAMP drivers from Kaduna and Bauchi states on harnessing emerging technologies for navigation, including the proficient use of Google Maps to optimize routes, save time, and improve overall driving efficiency.
The Kano State Project Coordinator for RAAMP, Mr. Sunusi Saleh Suleiman, emphasized the integral role of ICT in the project’s success. He stated, “ICT is central to RAAMP’s operations. With offices transitioning to online platforms, it is imperative for staff to adopt ICT to remain relevant.”
While speaking, the Director General of Kano State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), Mr. Sarki Ahmad, encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained. “This training is not just an opportunity; it is a responsibility. Use what you have learned to improve your operations and contribute to the success of RAAMP,” he advised.
RAAMP is a rural development initiative aimed at strengthening institutional and financial frameworks for sustainable rural road network management. The project is funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria, facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), and supported by the International Development Association (IDA), a subsidiary of the World Bank.
Ahmad elaborated on the project’s transformative impact, stating, “RAAMP is not just about improving rural access; it’s about transforming lives. ICT is the backbone of this transformation, and we must embrace it wholeheartedly.”
Participants expressed their commitment to applying the skills acquired to enhance productivity and contribute to the project’s success.
