eTrash2Cash Partners Kebbi Environment Ministry to Tackle Plastic Waste, Climate Change

A youth-led social enterprise in Kebbi State, eTrash2Cash, as part of its efforts to boost environmental sustainability and address the growing menace of plastic waste, paid an advocacy and partnership visit to the Kebbi State Ministry of Environment.

Led by the Project Lead, Mohammed Chiroma Hassan, the delegation introduced the organization’s mission and recent accomplishments, highlighting their commitment to creating sustainable, zero-waste societies that are healthy, educated, and informed.

He added with their Headquarter in Kano State, eTrash2Cash has been actively operating in Northern Nigeria, encouraging residents to exchange plastic waste for life-enhancing incentives.

According to Hassan, between April 2024 and April 2025, the enterprise successfully diverted over 200 metric tonnes of plastic waste from Kebbi State, while generating over 30 green jobs through its collection and processing center which is the largest such facility in the state.

As part of its ongoing efforts, eTrash2Cash launched a new initiative titled “Faith for Climate Change Action (F4CCA)” with support from the Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation.

Hassan revealed, the program aims to leverage the influential role of religious institutions to advocate for climate action and convert places of worship into mini collection points for plastic waste generated domestically.

The team was received by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mohammed Nasiru Musa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Environment and expressed the ministry’s willingness to support the initiative.

“This is a welcome development, and we are ready to support you. The initiative is timely, considering that plastic waste takes over 100 years to decompose. With the rising population, the amount of waste is increasing. If this continues unchecked, it will harm agriculture, leading to food scarcity, hunger, and poverty” he said.

Musa further applauded the youth-led effort, emphasizing its dual benefit of environmental protection and youth empowerment.

Also speaking, the Acting Director of Environment, Dantani Sarki, lauded the initiative and encouraged continued engagement with the ministry.

“We are happy to have you here. Feel free to reach out to us in writing, no matter how big your request is” Sarki said
