According to the words of Ronald Reagan, former president of the United States of America, “the greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”

In Malammadori/Kaugama Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, this is what is obtainable as it is no longer news that Hon Makki Yalleman ’s representation in the national assembly is like a house built on unity, justice, fairness, equal distribution of our commonwealth and all-inclusiveness.

How else can one describe a super public administrator and dynamic legislator of no mean repute, Hon Makki Abubakar Yalleman (Mallammadori/Kaugama) , Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs on his six years of impressive legislative excellence ?

Hon. Abubakar Makki Yalleman was born to the Family of Babananna and Asma’u Abubakar on the 22nd of May, 1969 in Tijanni Yalleman old Kano State.In 1976, his parents enrolled him in the in the Yalleman Tijjani Primary School in Kafin Hausa, in the old Kano State. He was an outstanding student in Primary School and was one of the Prefects during his final year in the School.

 

After obtaining his Certificate of Primary Education from the Yalleman Tijjani Primary School in 1982, Hon. Makki proceeded to the Senior Secondary Grammar School, Hadeija in old Kano State. He graduated from secondary school in 1989,after passing the School Certificate Examination.

 

Hon (Dr). Makki Abubakar Yalleman have always had a love for computation of figures and it was that passion that helped him find his way into the Accounting Department of the prestigious Bayero University, Kano, Kano State in 1991. He graduated from Bayero University in 1995 with a BSc in Accountancy.

 

After graduation from university, Hon. Makki was posted to Lagos State for his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) exercise where he served at the Central Bank of Nigeria Headquarters, Victoria Island, Lagos State from 1995 to 1996. After his NYSC, Hon. Makki proceeded to the Nigeria College of Accountancy, Jos, Plateau State, where he sat for and passed the required examination to be a Chartered National Accountant (CNA).

 

Hon. Makki joined the service of the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) in 1997 as an Account Officer and served in different capacity and stations, also rising to the position of Assistant Manager (Accounts) in 2004 when he left the organisation. During the period of 1998 to 2000, Hon. Makki was enrolled in the Masters of Business Administration programme of the highly revered Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State where he obtained his MBA.

 

Hon. Makki after leaving NEPA, returned to Jigawa State to join the Ministry of Finance and served in different capacity and played critical roles in the reorganization and transformation of the Ministry during those years from 2004 to 2010.

 

Hon. Makki returned back to the Federal Public Service as one of the pioneer staff of the Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Ltd/GTE in 2010, where he joined as Senior Manager Finance and Accounts, and was responsible for the setting of the Finance and Accounts Unit as well as the entire organization structure. Hon. Makki remained in the service of NELMCO where he rose through the ranks to the position of Assistant General Manager (Finance and Accounts) before he resigned in 2018 to venture into politics.

 

Hon. Abubakar Makki Yalleman was elected as the Representative of the good people of Kaugama/Mallam Madori Federal Constituency in 2019 and re-elected in 2023. Hon. Makki is currently the Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs.

Indeed, the lawmaker Makki ’s stellar performance is as a result of a combination of his upbringing and his leadership skill, honed over time from experiences gathered in various positions he held both as a civil servant with unblemished record of service and as a member of the House of Representatives with unprecedented constituency performance .

The House of Representatives with the likes of Hon Makki is at peace with itself, working harmoniously with the Senate and ensuring better Executive-Legislature relationship to ensure good governance because as Hon Makki often says, they must not fight in order to work and deliver dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

Since his reelection to the house two years ago, Hon Makki Abubakar Yalleman has truly demonstrated that the parliament is the bulwark for the defense of the rights and privileges of the common man, the champion of the rights of the weak and poor and anchor for the wellbeing of the Nigerian people particularly his Malammadori /Kaugama Federal constituency.

 

His legislative priorities are education, health, good roads, and water. Also accredited to him are the following: sponsorship of students scholarships, infrastructural development which includes: solar street lights, hand pump and motorized boreholes, renovation of primary healthcare centers, building of skills acquisition centers, lobbying for the construction of roads and renovation of secondary and primary schools. He is an advocate for Youth Empowerment and poverty alleviation. He has achieved these through: issuing of grants to the Youths and providing welfare packages to the less privileged long before his election for political office.

 

The Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs commands a lot of respect from his colleagues, largely due to the way he articulates his ideas and thoughts each times he speaks on the floor of the house as his colleagues listen with rapt attention whenever he contributes to any debate or table a motion which comes in regularly. His calmness and maturity has earned him the nickname “the stabilizer”, amongst friends and colleagues, many of whom consult him for advice which has come in handy more than a few times.

Humility is his defining character. Hon Makki Yalleman is humble to a fault. God-fearing, gentle, peaceful, generous; yet unassuming and exceptionally intelligent, a natural orator and never pretentious. For anyone who knows Makki, these things are easily discernible about his character-humility, intellect, courage and a calm spirit.

As a parliamentarian, Hon Makki Abubakar Yalleman in the last two years into his second term of legislative stint has brought new meaning to representation by positively impacting on lives of the people he swore to serve diligently and honestly. His love for the people is expressed in the most outstanding unique people-centered legislation and selfless service. To borrow from the Greek writer Homer,” he is both a speaker of words and doer of deeds .benevolent and highly spirited.”
