NSCDC Nabs Six Over Transformer Cable Theft in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano Command, has arrested six suspected vandals for allegedly stealing electricity equipment in the Hayin Da’e area of Hotoro, Tarauni Local Government Area.

The arrest, announced on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdullahi, followed credible intelligence provided by local vigilantes in the community.

“The suspects were caught with vandalised transformer cables believed to have been removed at midnight,” Abdullahi revealed.

The arrested suspects include Muhammad Yusuf (18), Muhammad Sani Adamu (19), Umar Musa (19), Ahmed Auwal (20), Muhd Yusuf (28), and Usman Ali (19) — all residents of the area.

Preliminary investigations, according to Abdullahi, show the group has long been terrorising residents of Hayin Da’e, Farawa Kwanar Yashi, and Hotoro eastern bypass with cases of burglary, theft, and vandalism of power installations.

“The Corps has launched further investigations to track other accomplices, while confessional statements have already been obtained from the suspects,” he said, adding that they will face prosecution upon conclusion of the inquiry.

The Command also assured residents that under the leadership of Commandant Shafi’u Abdulmumini, surveillance and patrols have been intensified to rid Kano of vandals and other criminal elements.

Just a day earlier, NSCDC operatives in Gombe paraded an 84-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy for allegedly vandalising transmission power cables in the state.
