CITAD Collaborates with ASF France to Educate Kano Students on Internet Safety, Security

The Centre for Technology and Development (CITAD), in partnership with Avocats Sans Frontières France (ASF France), has launched an Internet Safety and Security training program targeting over 500 secondary school students in Kano State.

Ali Sabo, the E-Rights Program Officer in Kano State, stated that the project is supported by the European Union (EU) and implemented in Nigeria by ASF France, CITAD, and Space for Change.

Sabo explained that CITAD, as a state partner, is coordinating activities in Kano State, while S4C is coordinating activities in Imo and Lagos States, respectively.

He further elaborated that this specific program, E-rights, aims to enhance the capacity of 10 different secondary schools across the state in internet safety and security.

“On Thursday, we initiated the program at Fatima Muhammad Secondary School. Then, we proceeded to Government Girls Secondary School Dorayi Karama, and on Friday, we are here at Kofar Nasarawa Secondary School for the training,” Sabo said.

“Our main theme of discussion focused on an individual’s online safety, covering topics such as malware, phishing, online impersonation, among other subjects,” Sabo explained.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, a student from Kofar Nasarawa Secondary School who spoke on behalf of other participating students, praised CITAD for the timely training.

He disclosed that the center has updated their knowledge on internet safety, particularly on issues related to scammers and identity theft. This is especially important in this contemporary era when young people are utilizing various social media platforms for e-commerce.

Ibrahim and other beneficiaries pledged to effectively pass down the training they received to other students who were not present during the training, ensuring that they are all safe online and know how to assert their digital rights if violated.
