BREAKING: Supreme Court Affirms Umo Eno’s Election As Akwa Ibom Governor

The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State.

The apex court on Thursday upheld the November 2023 ruling of the Court of Appeal, which dismissed the forgery case against the governor.

Recall that in November 2023, the Court of Appeal in Lagos State dismissed the forgery case and upheld the judgment of the tribunal, affirming Eno’s election as governor of Akwa Ibom State.

The appeal court ruling was given by a three-member panel of judges led by Festus Obande.

It quashed the three separate appeals filed against Eno.

The court dismissed the appeal instituted by Bassey Albert and his party, the Young Progressives Party (YPP), against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Eno, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for lacking merit.

The court also described the petitions filed by John Udoedehe of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and Akanimo Udofia of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Eno as unmeritorious and lacking substance.

The electoral body had declared Eno as the winner of the governorship election in Akwa Ibom, stating he won with a total of 356,348 votes. Albert came second with 136,262 votes, while Udofia came third with 129,602 votes.
