Plateau Governor Takes Medical Leave Ahead of Supreme Court Verdict

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, will be traveling to the United States of America for his doctor’s appointment on Friday, the 12th of January 2024.

In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Executive Governor, Plateau State, Mr. Gyang Bere, it is mentioned that the Governor has transmitted power to his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, who will serve as the acting Governor pending his return from the trip.

The governor expresses gratitude to the peace-loving Plateau people for their continued support and prayers.

Recall that the Supreme Court will deliver judgment today Friday in an appeal filed by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, challenging the nullification of his election by the Court of Appeal.

The Net Gazette reports that the Election Petitions Tribunal had earlier upheld the governor’s election on the platform of the PDP.

However, the Court of Appeal nullified the verdict in an appeal filed by the APC candidate, Nentawe Yiltwatda, on the grounds that the PDP, which nominated the governor as a candidate, had no structure at the time of his nomination.

This development prompted Mutfwang to file an appeal at the Supreme Court challenging the lower court’s decision.
