CITAD Equips Persons with Disabilities in Kano with Soft Skills for Job Readiness

Today, Wednesday, the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) in Kano State empowered Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) with essential soft skills, aiming to enhance their employability.

Buhari Abba, speaking on behalf of CITAD’s Executive Director, emphasized the initiative’s goal of bridging the employment gap for PWDs and equipping them with vital skills for workplace success.

“The aim of this project is to reduce the problem of unemployment in Kano state, especially by providing opportunities for people living with special needs and equipping them with the right and relevant skills. We have learned that unemployment is often due to the lack of relevant skills.”

Mr. Abba emphasized that the workshop aimed to provide participants with vital soft skills including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. These skills are imperative for success across all professions, enabling people with disabilities (PWDs) to compete effectively in the job market.

“This programme is crucial as it will prepare our youth when evaluating organizations or institutions, helping them identify recruiters’ requirements in relation to skills and attributes, anticipate likely interview questions, and learn effective approaches to answering different types of interview questions.”

Malam Hamza Aminu Fagge, the Coordinator for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at CITAD, praised CITAD’s dedication to empowering PWDs, noting that this endeavor has the potential to greatly improve their lives.

“By providing them with the necessary skills and resources, CITAD is helping PWDs achieve their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.”

During the workshop, Malam Ahmadu Adamu, Business Manager at Kano ICS office, discussed essential skills for kickstarting a career and succeeding in job interviews. Dr. Bashir Abdulhameed from Jigawa State Polytechnic talked about online job search tools, community support, and efficient job placement tactics.
