In a display of community support, the Kanawa Educational Foundation for the Disabled, in collaboration with the Nigeria Association of the Blind and with financial support from Access Bank, distributed food items and provided medical checkups to over 1,500 residents of Kano and Gombe States, primarily People with Disabilities (PWDs).
The three-day event, held last week Tuesday at the Kanawa Foundation’s offices in Sharada Kano Municipal Local Government, aimed to alleviate the hardships faced by many during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Chairman of Kanawa Educational Foundation for Disabled, Mr. Ibrahim Garba Madu said the Foundation distributed 1000 food items to Kano residents while 500 is from Gombe state.
“This program is designed to support families and the underprivileged in Kano and Gombe states during Ramadan,” said foundation chairman Ibrahim Garba Madu. “We hope to ease some of the suffering people are experiencing.”
Distributions included 10kg bags of rice, beans, along with Gari.
Beyond the food items, the Kanawa Foundation extended a helping hand with medical checkups. Beneficiaries received tests for HIV, hepatitis, malaria, and other prevalent conditions.
“We understand that healthcare access can be a challenge for some members of our community. By incorporating medical checkups, we aim to provide a more holistic form of support,” Madu explained.
Beneficiaries expressed their deep appreciation to the Kanawa Foundation and Access Bank.
