Convicted Kidnap Kingpin Wadume Released, Receives Hero’s Welcome

Hamisu Bala, also known as Wadume, a former kidnap kingpin, has been released from prison after serving a seven-year sentence.

Wadume was arrested in 2019 alongside a police inspector and others on a 13-count charge. The case gained national attention due to the involvement of soldiers who reportedly freed Wadume from police custody and killed some officers in the process.

According to Daily Post, Wadume arrived in his hometown of Ibi, Taraba State, a free man this weekend. He was reportedly met with a hero’s welcome by residents.

“Elders and youths trooped out to receive Wadume by the riverside,” said an anonymous source. “He went through the town before retiring to his house.”

Another source, Ismaila, described the celebratory atmosphere in Ibi. “The council was thrown into a festival mood the very day Wadume completed his jail term,” he said.

Wadume reportedly paid tribute to the Chief of Ibi, Alhaji Salihu Danbawuro, upon his arrival. He allegedly expressed gratitude for the chief’s support “throughout his ordeal.”

While the charges of kidnapping were not proven in court, Wadume was convicted of escaping lawful custody and possessing illegal firearms.
