Kano Imposes Restrictions on Public Gatherings

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has imposed strict restrictions on public gatherings for protests within the state.

This directive, announced on Wednesday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, authorizes security forces to apprehend, detain, and prosecute anyone participating in demonstrations on Kano’s streets.

Governor Yusuf’s decision aims to prevent potential disruptions to public order, reportedly planned by opposition figures.

The state government has received credible intelligence suggesting that opposition elements are allegedly recruiting student groups and political agitators from other northwestern states to incite chaos under the pretense of supporting the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

“We caution student groups against being manipulated by troublemakers who are resolute in fomenting disorder in Kano,” Tofa stated.

The directive mandates that the Police, the Directorate of State Security Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps enforce these measures rigorously.

The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and urged citizens to continue their normal activities, assuring them that the government remains vigilant and prepared to address any threats to the state’s tranquility.
