Governor Yusuf Announces New Emirs for Rano, Gaya, Karaye Emirates

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of three second-class Emirs for the Rano, Gaya, and Karaye Emirates.

According to a statement issued by Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for the Governor, and made available to journalists in Kano, these new emirates will serve as second-class emirates, with Kano remaining the first-class emirate.

The newly appointed Emirs are Alhaji Muhammad Mahraz Karaye, the Emir of Karaye (formerly the District Head of Rogo); Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar, the Emir of Rano (formerly the District Head of Bunkure); and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, the Emir of Gaya (former Emir of the defunct Gaya Emirate).

Governor Abba K. Yusuf congratulated the newly appointed Emirs, urging them to uphold the culture, peace, and unity of the people in their respective emirates.

It is noteworthy that on July 16, 2024, the Governor signed into law the establishment of the three second-class emirates: Rano covering Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Local Government areas; Gaya covering Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu Local Government areas; and Karaye covering Karaye and Rogo Local Government areas.

The appointments take effect immediately.
