Gwagwalada Residents Raise Alarm Over AEDC Negligence

Residents of Gwagwalada, along Paiko Road from Passo, Abuja, have expressed concern over the negligence of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in their area.

Benjamin Franklin, a local resident, noted that the company has consistently failed to provide sturdy electric poles, leading to the collapse of some poles in the past and prolonged blackouts.

“The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has turned a blind eye to us. Recently, some of our poles were brought down by wind and rain because they were weak. They replaced them with flimsy wooden poles, which are now almost touching the ground—a clear sign of another power outage if nothing is done quickly,” he said.

Similarly, Mr. Matthew Abu expressed frustration with AEDC officials, stating that their reluctance to address issues with their infrastructure is hampering service delivery and customer satisfaction.

The businessman raised concerns about the danger posed by the poles, some of which are precariously located in a rice farm.

“You can see for yourself, these poles are inside a rice farm. God forbid, what if they collapse when the farmer or his children are working there? One pole falling could bring down others, plunging the entire area into darkness again,” he warned.

Residents are urging the electricity company to replace the weak wooden poles with concrete or stronger alternatives to prevent any unfortunate accidents.

Attempts to contact the management of AEDC for comments were unsuccessful, as calls, emails, and messages sent by this medium were ignored.
