The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has revealed that only 1.5 million people out of a population of over 6 million have obtained their National Identification Cards in Jigawa State.

The NIMC state coordinator, Alhaji Aminu Jakada, made this known while addressing journalists following a procession in Dutse to mark International Identity Day 2024.

He explained that the event aimed to raise awareness about the significance of the National Identity Card.

Represented by the Zonal Officer in Kazaure, Comrade Muhammad Yusuf, Jakada noted that the United Nations designates September 16 each year as International Identity Day.

“Statistically, only 1.5 million people are registered in Jigawa State, while over 4.5 million people are yet to register,” he stated.

He called on residents to register at the commission’s offices across the state.

Jakada further appealed to religious and traditional leaders, as well as other stakeholders, to encourage citizens to recognize the importance of having a National Identity Card.
