President Bola Tinubu has approved N80 billion for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Alau Dam in Borno State, a critical project aimed at addressing flooding and water resource management in the region.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Utsev, on Tuesday following the second Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“The President has approved N80 billion for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Alau Dam in Borno State, pending ratification by the FEC. Due processes are currently being observed,” Utsev stated.

The minister also highlighted the collaborative efforts between federal and state authorities to ensure the project’s success. “The Borno State government is working closely with us to kickstart the project, with the first phase aimed at preventing flooding in 2025,” he added.

The reconstruction of Alau Dam is expected to significantly enhance water resource management, mitigate flooding risks, and improve the livelihoods of residents in Borno State. The project underscores the federal government’s commitment to infrastructure development and disaster prevention in the region.
