Kano State Assembly Approves Law for State-Owned Armed Security Outfit

The Kano State House of Assembly has passed a landmark bill into law, establishing a state-owned security outfit authorized to bear arms. The move comes after extensive deliberations on the bill’s provisions, including a key clause that prohibits members of any political party from leading the new security organization.

During the debates, lawmakers emphasized the importance of ensuring the outfit remains impartial and effective in maintaining peace and order across the state. The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Lawan Husaini Dala, highlighted that the legislation underwent a thorough review to guarantee its alignment with the needs of all sectors in Kano.

“This law grants the security personnel the authority to carry arms, make arrests, prevent crimes, and apprehend offenders throughout the state,” Dala explained. He further assured that the leadership of the outfit would be entrusted to a non-partisan and qualified indigene of Kano State, ensuring neutrality and fairness in its operations.

The establishment of the security outfit is seen as a significant step toward addressing security challenges and enhancing public safety in Kano State. The law is expected to bolster efforts to combat crime and protect residents while maintaining transparency and accountability in its leadership structure.
