Gunmen Kill Resident in Failed Kidnap Attempt on Gombe Community

Terror struck Kwami community in Gombe State on Sunday night when armed men suspected to be kidnappers launched an attack that left one resident dead.

The victim, identified as Adamu Commander, was killed during the confrontation after residents mobilized to resist the attackers.

Community Resistance Ends in Tragedy

Eyewitnesses said locals, alerted to the presence of the gunmen, attempted to repel the invasion before the assailants could abduct anyone. However, the attackers—armed with sophisticated weapons—overpowered the community defenders.

In the chaos, Adamu Commander was captured. Sources said he was brutally killed, with the attackers slitting his throat before fleeing under the cover of darkness.

A Respected Victim, A Grieving Community

The late Commander, described as a respected member of the community, is survived by two wives. His death has deepened fears in Kwami, where residents say insecurity is worsening.

“This incident has shaken everyone here,” a resident told reporters.
“We tried to defend ourselves, but the gunmen were heavily armed. Now we have lost one of our own. People are living in fear.”

Calls for Action

The killing has triggered outrage and renewed calls for urgent intervention. Community members are appealing to security agencies and the Gombe State government to step up protection for rural settlements increasingly vulnerable to violent attacks.
