Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, have intercepted a major consignment of illicit substances, recovering 8,000 bottles of Akuskura herbal mixture suspected to contain dangerous drugs, alongside 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa. A 37-year-old suspect, identified as Ali Muhammad, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The operation took place around Gadar Tamburawa, along the Zaria–Kano Road, when NDLEA officers stopped a trailer transporting tricycles (Keke Napep) from Lagos to Maiduguri.
Upon inspection, the operatives discovered the exhibits concealed between the tricycles and hidden beneath a specially constructed wooden cover under the trailer. The agency said the successful bust was a result of officers’ “diligence, vigilance, and commitment.”
All exhibits, along with the suspect, are now in NDLEA custody pending further investigation and laboratory analysis to determine the exact composition of the substances and the scope of the trafficking network.
Speaking on the breakthrough, the Commander of NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, commended the sustained support of the agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), CON, OFR, which, he said, has enabled state commands to act swiftly and decisively in the war against drugs.
The NDLEA also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious consignments or activities to the nearest NDLEA office or law enforcement agency.
