2027: Kano South Secretaries Pick Rurum as Preferred Candidate

Sixteen local government secretaries in Kano South Senatorial District have endorsed Kabiru Alhassan Rurum as their preferred candidate for the senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was contained in a resolution reached after consultations among council officials and party stakeholders across the zone.

The Chairman of the Kano South Secretaries’ Forum and Secretary of Wudil Local Government, Barrister Ahmad Musa Mazare, said the decision followed collective discussions within the district.

He said, “We took this decision after wide consultations across the zone. It is a unanimous resolution driven by the need to ensure unity and secure victory for our party in 2027.”

Mazare said the forum believed Rurum would offer effective representation for the district at the National Assembly.

He said, “We are convinced that Kabiru Alhassan Rurum has the capacity, experience, and grassroots connection to represent Kano South more effectively.”

He also noted concerns about the relationship between the current senator and grassroots party structures.

Mazare said, “We cannot afford to go into 2027 divided. The current situation at the grassroots shows a disconnect that must be addressed if we want to win.”

According to him, secretaries from Rano, Doguwa, Kiru, Karaye, Rogo, Albasu, Garko, Bunkure, Kibiya, Gaya, and Wudil Local Government Areas attended the meeting, while five others who were absent also supported the resolution.

He said, “The absent secretaries excused themselves but aligned with the endorsement.”

The development comes a day after 16 local government chairmen from the same senatorial district also endorsed Rurum’s senatorial ambition under the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
