Police probe into Dadiyata long overdue — Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has welcomed the decision by the Nigeria Police to investigate the disappearance of activist, Abubakar Idris Dadiyata.

Kwankwaso made this known on Saturday in a statement shared on his verified Facebook page, reacting to recent testimony alleging that some police officers claimed responsibility for Dadiyata’s disappearance in Kaduna.

The former governor said he and his associates had continued to pray and advocate for justice since Dadiyata’s abduction in 2019.

“I have been made aware of the recent testimony by a former aide to a former state governor, in which he alleged that police officers claimed responsibility for the disappearance of Abubakar Idris Dadiyata in Kaduna,” he said.

Kwankwaso described as reassuring the directive by the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ordering a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

“It is therefore reassuring that the Inspector General of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation into this matter. I commend the Inspector General for this decisive and long-overdue action,” he added.

He urged the police authorities to closely monitor individuals mentioned in the testimony to prevent interference, while calling on the government to ensure adequate compensation for Dadiyata and his family if he is found alive.

Kwankwaso also commended members of the public for sustaining advocacy on the case and praised Barrister Abba Hikima Fagge for his role in the latest development, expressing hope that the investigation would finally deliver truth and justice.
