The training department of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) took steps on Monday to enhance the capacities of 14 Kaduna State drivers of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) by imparting essential skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), utilizing Google Maps, and refining driving abilities.
The CITAD training coordinator, Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi Yaksai, said the five -day training, sponsored by the World Bank under The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), aimed at “educating the drivers on harnessing technology for navigation, including the proficient use of Google Maps to optimize routes, save time, and improve overall driving efficiency.”
Mr. Yakasai also added that the training focused on enhancing driving skills, emphasizing road safety measures, traffic regulations, and practical techniques for navigating various terrains and scenarios.
He further mentioned that CITAD has developed a fast-track module that requires minimal time from the participants and has been thoroughly tested.
“CITAD views this as an opportunity to provide ICT Capacity Building for drivers. It is, therefore, imperative that drivers in developed countries become proficient in using ICT infrastructure such as Google Maps in their driving,” said Mr. Yakasai.
Mr. Yakasai also urged the drivers to capitalize on this opportunity to learn from experts and apply these lessons to their daily operations.
The training, facilitated by Vehicles Inspector Officer Abubakar Shuaibu, encompasses a wide range of topics, including traffic rules and regulations, vehicle maintenance, road signs and markings, speed limits, lane discipline, accident prevention and management, passenger rights and responsibilities, as well as communication skills.
The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) is a third-generation rural access project aimed to strengthen the institutional and financing base for sustainable state and rural network management.
