Holds Buhari Responsible for Economic Hardship in Nigeria – Northern Group

An amalgamation of pro-democracy groups from the 19 Northern States under the aegis of the Arewa Initiative for Defence and Promotion of Democracy, AIDPD, has attributed the current economic hardship in the country to the actions of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group’s position is in reaction to the disclosure by the Chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq that “crude oil Nigeria will be getting in next six months has already been sold” in advance by the immediate past government.”

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the Chairman of the Amalgamation, Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, said Tinubu inherited the worst economy so far.

He said: “For instance, the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazagq and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) had just revealed that the crude oil the country will be getting in the next six months had been sold in advance by the immediate past administration.

According to him, some unpatriotic politicians have hijacked the economic hardship to instigate civil unrest against the government, adding that protests in some northern States were the handiwork of those elements.

He called for the cooperation of Nigerians for the government to address issues.

Ma’aji further argued that sub-regional crises were also responsible for economic woes as no nation can operate in isolation from others.

“That the world economy is currently not in the best of shape due to the Russian-Ukrainian and the Israeli-Palestinian wars.

“We observed that the Nigerian economy is not exempted from this global economic problem.

“The current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited a lot of problems from the past administration of Muhammadu Buhari which it is currently trying to address.”
