World Press Freedom Day: CITAD Urges Protection of Journalists Amid Rising Threats

Kano State College of Education & Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS) hosted a lecture series commemorating World Press Freedom Day, organized by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD).

The event aimed to educate students on the significance of press freedom in democracy, with KASCEPS Provost, Professor Sunusi Yakubu Ahmad, emphasizing the vital role journalists play.

Professor Ahmad stated, “World Press Freedom Day reminds us of the crucial role a free press plays in fostering democracy, education, and accountability,” underscoring journalists’ dedication to truth.

Dr. Shehu Abubakar discussed innovations in journalism to combat disinformation, stressing the need for journalists to adapt to the digital landscape.

Malam Abbas Yushau Yusuf emphasized the significance of press freedom in holding governments accountable, stating, “A free press is essential for informed decision-making and accountability.”

The lecture series provided KASCEPS students valuable insights into press freedom’s importance and the challenges journalists encounter.
