Kano Civil Servants, CSOs Empowered on Data Protection in Digital Age

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in collaboration with Top IT Consulting LTD, recently concluded a training program designed to equip civil servants and members of civil society organizations in Kano state with a thorough understanding of data protection, compliance, and global best practices.

The one-day training, which was held at the Kano CITAD Office last week, aimed to empower CSOs and civil servants to safeguard sensitive information in today’s digital age and ensure compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Commission Law.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Director of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), Engr. Y.Z. Ya’u, who was represented by the Centre’s Technical Officer Muhammad Bello Yahaya, said, “In today’s world, data is the new oil. We must equip ourselves with the knowledge to protect this valuable resource.”

Mr. Bello emphasized that by equipping young people with the necessary knowledge and skills, this training empowers them to navigate the digital landscape with confidence and protect their valuable information.

Malam Isah Garba, CITAD’s Senior Program Officer, further emphasized the program’s significance during his address.

According to him, “By empowering our members of CSOs and Civil Servants with data protection knowledge, we are building a more secure digital future for Kano and Nigeria as a whole.”

Aftahana Dahiru Sarina, one of the participants, spoke to newsmen and said, “This training opened my eyes to the risks involved in sharing data online. I now feel more confident in protecting my personal information.”

He also added, “The best practices we learned will be invaluable in my future career, especially when handling sensitive data.”

The training covered a comprehensive range of topics, including the principles of data protection, relevant regulations, and best practices for securing sensitive information.
