NBS: Kerosene Prices Increased Across Nigeria

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that the average retail price of a litre of kerosene paid by consumers increased to N1,555.11 in June, marking a 7.22% rise from N1,450.35 recorded in May.

According to the NBS kerosene price watch released on July 29, on a year-on-year basis, the average retail price per litre surged by 25.73% from N1,236.91 in June 2023.

In its state profile analysis, the NBS noted that Kaduna recorded the highest average price per litre in June at N2,072.92, followed by Benue at N2,038.99 and Zamfara at N1,833.33. Conversely, Kebbi had the lowest price at N1,248.15, trailed by Taraba at N1,277.60 and Sokoto at N1,300.00.

Analyzing by zones, the NBS revealed that the north-central region recorded the highest average retail price per litre of kerosene at N1,686.97, followed by the north-west at N1,589.68, with the north-east recording the lowest at N1,416.13.

Furthermore, the average retail price of a gallon of kerosene rose to N5,698.68 in June, marking a 9.66% increase from N5,196.69 in May.

On a year-on-year basis, this represented a 33.49% increase from N4,269.13 in June 2023, according to the NBS.

In state-specific analysis, Kano and Sokoto reported the highest average retail price of kerosene at N7,500.00, followed by Kaduna at N7,250.00 and Katsina at N7,100.00. Conversely, Rivers state recorded the lowest price at N3,200.00, followed by Niger at N4,290.10 and Delta at N4,471.43.

By zone, the north-west had the highest average retail price of kerosene per gallon at N6,899.49, followed by the north-east at N6,155.96, while the south-south recorded the lowest at N4,621.95, according to the NBS.
