The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has launched the second phase of the Sustainable Youth Enterprises Challenge to equip young people in Kano State with skills for self-sustaining futures.
CITAD’s Executive Director, Yunusa Ya’u, highlighted that the initiative aims to instill an entrepreneurial mindset among youth. Represented by Senior Program Officer Isa Garba, Ya’u noted that the program will provide young entrepreneurs with mentorship and support to develop their skills.
“Our hope is to share business experience and develop youths by utilizing their skills,” he said.
The CITAD director urged participants to use this opportunity to strengthen their skills and become employers.
The second phase, run by CITAD and funded by the British Council with support from King’s Trust International, focuses on providing Nigeria’s youth with essential entrepreneurial tools.
“To prepare young individuals, CITAD has initiated an entrepreneurship program focused on both technical and soft skills,” he added.7This training provides participants with a broad understanding of business essentials, preparing them for the business and labor markets.
CITAD has already trained 60 youths in the first phase and plans to engage 70 more in this round.
“The training program covers areas such as digital entrepreneurship, ICT skills, and marketing, along with soft skills that increase employability and entrepreneurial capability,” Ya’u said.
“Focusing on digital entrepreneurship, participants will learn to operate in the digital marketplace. Through new enterprise creation, the program aims to create job opportunities, addressing the region’s unemployment challenges.”
The collaboration between the British Council, King’s Trust International, and CITAD reflects a commitment to supporting the development of resilient business leaders.
