Kano Farmers Appeal for Government Intervention Against Unlawful Takeover

The union of farm owners in Dansoshiya Forest Kiru Local Government Area of Kano state and its surrounding areas has called on the government to step in against what they describe as an attempted illegal seizure of their farms by the Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, the community’s Public Relations Officer II, highlighted the significant reduction in robberies and kidnappings since farmers established their presence in the forest. He noted that the farmers’ presence has brought peace and stability to the area, making the recent attempts to unlawfully take over their farms a serious concern.

“We have worked hard to bring tranquility to this region,” Abdullahi stated. “The threat of losing our farms undermines all our efforts.”

The farmers are urging the government to address this issue promptly to protect their rights and restore peace. They insist that the protection of their farms is vital for the continued stability of the region.

Responding to the situation, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Danjuma Mahmood, called for cooperation among all stakeholders to find a resolution. He stressed the importance of clarifying the land’s origin and ownership to avoid further disputes.

“It’s crucial that we work together to resolve these issues,” Mahmood said. “Only by understanding the true ownership of the land can we prevent future conflicts.”

Both farmers and herdsmen in the area have emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to safeguard agricultural lands and maintain peace. The community looks to the government for decisive action and hopes for a resolution through dialogue and cooperation that will benefit all parties involved.
