The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In a weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna states on Wednesday morning in the northern region.

According to the agency, thunderstorms are also expected in the afternoon and evening hours over areas such as Kano, Borno, Katsina, Adamawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Jigawa states.

“In the North Central region, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger states in the morning,” NiMet stated.

It added that later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara states.

In the southern region, morning thunderstorms are forecasted in areas such as Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

Later in the day, intermittent rain is expected in parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom states.

In the northern region on Thursday, NiMet predicted thunderstorms in Taraba and Adamawa states in the morning, with further thunderstorms expected later in the day over parts of Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states.

In North Central, rain is forecasted over parts of Plateau and Benue states in the morning, with thunderstorms anticipated later in the day in the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, and Benue states.

“Intermittent rain is expected over parts of Enugu and Anambra states during the morning hours in the southern region,” NiMet added.

Later in the day, intermittent rain is forecasted in Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta states.

For Friday, thunderstorms are expected over Adamawa and Taraba states in the northern region during the morning, with further storms predicted later in the day over parts of Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, and Zamfara states.

In North Central, rain is anticipated over parts of Nasarawa and Niger states in the morning, with localized thunderstorms expected later in Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Niger states.

“In the southern cities, cloudy skies are expected in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and intermittent rain later in the day,” NiMet said.

The agency warned residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities from heavy downpours.

“Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely, so the public should take precautions and adhere to safety advisories from relevant authorities,” NiMet advised.

“Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning,” the agency added.
