The lifeless body of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has been discovered on the Second Niger Bridge, days after he was abducted by gunmen.
Azuka was kidnapped and attacked on Christmas Eve while returning home for the festivities. The incident occurred along Ugwunapampa Road in Onitsha, Anambra State.
In a statement on Thursday, Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the discovery of the lawmaker’s decomposing body on the bridge.
“In the early hours of today, 6/2/2025, at the Second Niger Bridge, a joint security team comprising police and AVG operatives, on a mission to rescue the abducted Hon. Azuka, state house of assembly member representing Onitsha North, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene,” the statement read.
Ikenga added that security operatives have launched a manhunt for those responsible for the crime.
“As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated, as the joint security team has taken over the scene and an operation is ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspects involved,” he said.
Azuka was a member of the Labour Party (LP). In November 2023, the Court of Appeal upheld his election victory, unseating a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker who had initially been declared the winner.
