Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Referred to Senate Disciplinary Panel Over Seat Dispute

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has been referred to the Senate Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions Committee following her protest over the reassignment of her seat in the chamber.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the decision during Tuesday’s plenary, stating that the matter had been formally referred for review.

The controversy arose after Akpoti-Uduaghan’s seat was relocated from the minority section to the last row without prior notice. She resisted the change, which was interpreted as a breach of Senate rules.

Akpabio emphasized that the disciplinary panel would investigate the incident and report back to the Senate for further action.

“There’s a motion before us to refer the matter to our Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions Committee, which will then report back to the chamber,” Akpabio said. “Even the first time this issue came up, our distinguished colleague was not speaking from her assigned seat, and we had to call her to order.”

The committee’s findings will determine the next course of action.
