CITAD Workshop Equips Newly Employed PWDs in Kano with Essential Workplace Skills

A non-governmental organization, the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), organized a one-day workshop in Kano State focusing on workplace ethics for recently employed persons with disabilities (PWDs) by the Kano state government.

The Saturday event at CITAD’s Kano office focused on empowering individuals with disabilities (PWDs) by equipping them with essential skills for their new roles.

Engr. Yunusa Zakari Ya’u, represented by CITAD’s PWD Coordinator, Malam Hamza Aminu Fagge, underscored the obstacles confronting individuals with disabilities at work, such as societal biases, resource constraints, and inaccessible facilities. “These barriers hinder their ability to contribute meaningfully and achieve self-sufficiency,” Fagge stated.

According to Aminu Fagge, “CITAD’s goals are to break down these barriers and create an inclusive environment where PWDs can thrive.”

He emphasized that with appropriate support, everyone, regardless of their abilities, can profoundly influence their surroundings.

Malam Isa Musa Burji, Assistant Zonal Director of the Nassarawa Zonal Office in the Kano State Ministry of Education, addressed the roles and obligations of civil servants, stressing the importance of commitment and ethical behavior.

Malam Musa Burji said, “Dedication and ethical conduct are the cornerstones of a successful civil service career.”

“Upholding these values will not only benefit you but also the entire community you serve.”

“Remember that your role as a civil servant is to serve the public with integrity and respect,” Malam Musa Burji stressed.

He also encouraged the newly employed PWDs to uphold these values in their professional lives.

Mr. Amadu Adamu, head of the Kano ICS office, delivered a presentation on work ethics, emphasizing the critical values of trust and mutual respect among coworkers. “A positive and productive work environment is built on trust and mutual respect,” Adamu remarked.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Buhari Abba commended the participants for their enthusiasm and commitment, emphasizing that “today marks the beginning of a journey towards greater inclusion and productivity in your workplaces.”

He encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge gained to overcome challenges and contribute meaningfully to their different organizations and communities.
