Kano Governor Launches Single Central Revenue Account for MDAs

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced the creation of a Single Central Revenue Account (SCRA) for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the state.

This directive, issued during an interactive meeting with MDAs heads at Africa House, Government House, aims to address challenges in revenue management and transparency.

According to a statement from the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the move is prompted by the state’s reliance on manual revenue processes and limited technological integration.

Some MDAs have been operating unauthorized revenue accounts, leading to inefficiencies and lack of accountability due to the proliferation of multiple expenditure accounts.

To address these issues and improve the state’s revenue management, Governor Yusuf has appointed a new management team for the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) and approved the implementation of a Central Billing System (CBS) to standardize billing across all MDAs.

The Governor has instructed the Accountant General to issue a circular mandating all MDAs to adhere to the Kano State MDA Revenue Harmonization Law, 2016.

Additionally, the Accountant General is directed to close all existing MDA bank accounts, whether for revenue or expenditure, within 48 hours, and transfer all funds to the new accounts established by the Office of the Accountant General.

Banks are required to submit compliance certificates to both the Accountant General and the Executive Chairman of KIRS. Governor Yusuf assured citizens that the administration will continue to invest tax revenues in impactful projects, focusing on sectors such as Water and Sanitation, Health, Education, Urban Renewal, and Agricultural Development from the first quarter of 2025.

He also announced the establishment of a new Ministry of Power and Sustainable Energy to address the state’s power supply challenges.
