The Federal Government has commenced the rollout of paperless governance across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) through the 1Government Cloud platform developed under the Sovereign Digitalisation Programme by Galaxy Backbone Limited.
A statement made available to newsmen on Saturday listed the pioneer adopters as the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; Ministry of Solid Minerals; Ministry of Steel Development; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Federal Ministry of Justice; Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria; and the Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs.
The Programme Director of 1Government Cloud, Mr Wumi Oghoetuoma, said the initiative was designed to improve efficiency, cut costs and strengthen transparency in public service.
According to him, the paperless system would eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks, reduce expenses on printing and storage of physical files, and enhance accountability in government operations.
He added that the platform guarantees security of sensitive documents through encrypted storage and accelerates decision-making across MDAs.
“With MDAs uniting under a single vision to improve service delivery, Nigeria is laying the foundation for a seamless digital government ecosystem,” he said.
Oghoetuoma noted that the mandate of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to achieve a fully paperless civil service by December 2025 was achievable, commending the phased approach adopted, which prioritises staff training and IT infrastructure.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the project as a strategic shift in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
“With 1Gov, Nigeria is entering a new era of governance — faster decision-making, more secure documentation, and ultimately, better services for citizens,” he said.
The 1Government Cloud features tools such as GovDrive for encrypted file management, GovECMS for workflow automation, GovMail for secure communication, GovE-Sign for electronic approvals and GovConference for encrypted meetings.
Others include GovOTP for secure authentication, GovAsset Management for tracking public assets and GovCollaboration for inter-agency teamwork.
The statement said the rollout placed Nigeria among countries adopting smart government solutions, with the pioneer MDAs setting the stage for nationwide transformation towards a sovereign, paperless government.
